You are what you eat

Posted in Operation: Bikini Bod at 3:28 pm by Nicole

I never realized before just how important food is, not just to nourish yourself, but also as a social activity.  Business lunches, drinks, dinner dates, coffee with friends, all of it requires that we eat.  I mean, next to shopping (which oftentimes involves a snack) what other kind of bonding type experiences can you do together with a girlfriend?

Which is kinda a problem for Operation: Bikini Bod.  The nature of my work is that I’m about 70% in the office and 30% traveling.  While I’m traveling, I’m meeting with people and having to have lunch, or grabing quick unhelathy things at the airport or 7-11.  When I’m at work, I like to book lunches with friends since dinners are so much harder to coordinate.  Today, I thought about asking a friend if she wanted to grab lunch, thought about the fact that I ate two slices of cold pizza (I KNOW) for breakfast, and decided that a cup of water and a handful of chips should suffice for lunch.   Now, I’m practically clawing at the walls of the office because I didn’t get a lunch break, and I missed seeing my friend.  For someone that equates eating with valued social interaction, this is TORTURE.

And, forget about the possibility that I would “be good” and just eat something small and light when eating with others.  Because you best be sure that if you are going to order the chocolate cake, I’m going to eat half.  And I’m not going to get a salad if you’re getting the bacon cheeseburger and fries.  I mean, that, too, is torture.

I wonder how everyday people find the time to eat healthy and exercise.  I know that people do it, but to me, it seems impossible.  Sigh.

just make the right choice one opportunity at a time. I’m 26 and a size 4. The times I see my clothes get a little snug, I get some yogurt and eat it for breakfast, i will get a side salad for lunch and maybe have a cereal bar for snack. I also try to walk on my lunch break, and if u work in the city…window shop! thats something you can do with friends and its physical activity. Since its summer I will come home and go for another walk and talk to friends who have the same cell phone servicer as me. (free minutes) I make it a point to really be in tune with what they are telling me is going on in their lives. the chocolate cake isn’t important…there are plenty of opportunities to eat choco cake later. it’ll be there waiting for you…right before your period comes…. :)

Hi Jennifer! Hahaha, that is so true about the chocolate cake! I think you are right and I am trying to approach this one decision at a time. Y’all would be proud of me today - juice and cereal for breakfast, turkey and cheese sandwich and iced tea for lunch, soup and salad for dinner. Thanks for your help!
