Sunshine and puppy dogs and cotton candy
While I do admittedly devote much of my brain energies on things that I probably shouldn’t, that is not to say that is all I do. In fact, I had a pretty eventful weekend that I completely neglected to write about!
On Friday night after work I met some girlfriends out at the Abbey in West Hollywood, to celebrate a friend-of-a-friend’s something or other worth celebrating. For those that don’t know, the Abbey is The Most Famous Ever Gay Bar in the City. The drinks are strong, the men are great eye candy, and a couple of years ago I saw Laurence Fishburne lounging in one of the cabanas in the back. Also, the Abbey just revamped its menu and we chowed down on sliders (don’t forget to add bacon!), french fries (delicious!), and mac and cheese (kind of too watery, like a soup). A couple people ordered salads (why?) and said they were good too. Of course, we got some carrot cake and a devil’s food cake for dessert, both delicious and rich.
We decided to then go next door to Here and dance off our dinner. The drinks are not as strong at Here, and the girls far out number the guys, but they play Top 40 pop songs, which is perfect to dance to when you’ve had two (v. strong) pomegranate martinis at the Abbey. As a side, I am slightly ashamed to admit that I am now loving Rihanna’s “Umbrella,” which my girls and I sang all throughout the night. We may have even created a little dance for it. I’m not saying any more.
Saturday was back to Robertson Boulevard for the Lisa Kline blowout sale. Picked up a couple party dresses - one is bright lavender - because my new thing is to wear dresses when going out instead of that tired “jeans and a sparkly party top” look. Saturday night was low key Mexican and margaritas for dinner, and then we hit up the Arsenal for drinks, and, of course, impromptu dancing. (Arsenal = pomegranate margaritas, cute, but a little older men, and a giant smoking patio that smokers apparently love.) As the night wore on, more friends started to arrive, including this one guy who is a co-worker of a friend and who I have been told harbors a little crush on me, but is totally bitter about the fact that I’m not (and never have been) interested. Like some kind of weird Love/Hate thing. Anyway, he was definitely into the Hate aspect of his split personality, and began making snide comments and making it awkward and uncomfortable so I decided to call it a night after that.
On Sunday I slept in and then had brunch with Sam (ex-boyfriend, now one of my best friends, still struggling to break up with his current girlfriend). Sunday night, I had gotten FREE BOX SEATS to DJ Shadow at the Hollywood Bowl, and let me tell you how much I absolutely LOVE the Hollywood Bowl. Nothing beats sitting underneath the stars listening to great music with a great bottle of wine (except this time we brought vodka).
So there! My weekend in highlights. It was so busy I didn’t have any time to run errands, do laundry, eat a meal at home, or even obsess about anything, much less My Ambiguous Relationship with The Guy Who Moved Away Last Month. Just what I needed.
